If you made it through to the semifinals – congratulations. While the wire is supremely thin at this point of the season, finding those matchup players could go a long way to your success. Even as we will always preach playing your studs that got you here – there is the potential for some of these men to take you over the top. Let’s dive into this week’s edition of wavier wire targets.

Philip Rivers (IND) (41%)
We will not stop the support train of the Colts Phillip Rivers. Playing extremely well and having a gloriously safe floor, Rivers has a great matchup against the Texans in week 15. If you have been steaming quarterbacks this season, Rivers is still owned in only 41% of leagues and will be a safe bet to earn points again. Quit sleeping on this man, as he will be a great earner yet again.
Back from the dead, the Bears Mitchell Trubisky is finding his way back to being a fantasy viable passer. Having posted two contests over 20-points in his last three starts – Trubisky is back and could be used this week verse the Vikings. While the floor isn’t as safe as say Philip Rivers – the upside is here for another strong showing. If you need upside, Trubisky could be that guy.
The Raiders Derek Carr has climbed back into the positive the past two weeks and holds a fabulous matchup in week 15. Facing the Chargers on Thursday Night, Carr will be ready to go and should pile up the points once again. The Raiders are in the midst of fighting for their playoff lives, which will also lift the overall perspective of his stat line. He is a great fill-in passer again this week.
Gardner Minshew (JAX) (10%)
Teddy Bridgewater (CAR) (32%)
Gus Edwards (BAL) (33%)
With running backs being very thin on the wire and injuries piling up, the Ravens Gus Edwards is now the viable touchdown vulture. Baltimore will continue to use both Edwards and JK Dobbins in this backfield, leaving Mark Ingram of no consequence. Edwards will always have bust potential – but the upside in scoring is always here. If you need a back, he is one to target.
The 49ers backfield continues to be a mess on the best of days, but Jeff Wilson is beginning to turn the corner. Seeing volume in carries, while being used in the pass game more than we had envisioned – Wilson have a great matchup verse the Cowboys porous run defense. There will always be fear and risk to play Wilson in a multi-back system, but if you’re desperate, he could produce again.
Something of a dart throw off the wire, Lynn Bowden is an intriguing player. Bowden is a converted wide receiver, turned running back – who could have a big role on Sunday. With teammates DeVante Parker, and Jakeem Grant possible to miss with injury, he could find himself seeing a boatload of targets like last week. Adding to that, Myles Gaskin has been rumoured to miss this contest as well due to Covid – which leaves a splendid amount of work to come his way. Bowden has RB/WR availability which gives you more flexibility and he is one to look at with all Miami’s injuries.
Tony Pollard (DAL) (22%)
Peyton Barber (WAS) (8%)
Ito Smith (ATL) (4%)
Brian Hill (ATL) (13%)
Tim Patrick (DEN) (28%)
Wide receiver had been plentiful over the season, but now appears to be thinning. With that said, we still have some good names to target and one is Tim Patrick. Becoming Drew Lock’s favorite target for most of the season, he has been very good in scoring touchdowns. Facing the Bills this week comes with some pause – but another endzone trip isn’t out of the question. He could be an upgrade this week.
With the injury to Brandin Cooks, Keke Coutee was the primary target last week and should remain as a top choice in this pass game. Having another tough matchup in the Colts in week 15, you may want to look elsewhere – but the target share should again be decent. In full PPR formats, Coutee is a good add with a safer floor. If you require the safety net – Coutee could be that player you can trust.
Picking up the Falcons Russell Gage is again contingent on the health of Julio Jones. If Jones misses this week’s contest again – Gage is a very strong play this week against the Buccaneers. This play could go two ways, in that garbage time points will be favorable, or controlling the clock in short passes will be a common theme. Gage is a player that has flex appeal all day for week 15.
Nelson Agholor (LVR) (36%)
Tyron Johnson (LAC) (0%)
Gabriel Davis (BUF) (7%)
KJ Hamler (DEN) (3%)
Allen Lazard (GB) (37%)
Tyler Higbee (LAR) (48%)
The Rams offense is one that has somewhat transformed into a run heavy squad, but has removed the prowess from passing to the tight end. However, this week’s showdown has a glorious possibility of Tyler Higbee being a wonderful fantasy play. The Jets are the worst team in terms of defending the position, which could bring good fortune. Tight end has been a problem all season, but this is a solid potential plug-in play.
If we are looking for upside, there is a boom-or-bust player we should all be looking at. If your current tight end has been underwhelming this season, the Vikings Irv Smith is someone that could see his role continue to increase. Much like last week, this week’s opponent struggles to defend the position. Smith has a brutal floor, but brings solid touchdown upside.
Jordan Reed (SF) (23%)
Dalton Schultz (DAL) (21%)
Will Dissly (SEA) (2%)
Tyler Eifert (JAX) (6%)
Dawson Knox (BUF) (2%)
Cole Kmet (CHI) (6%)
Cleveland (51%) vs NY Giants
