With only five more contests remaining for the fantasy regular season, getting into a playoff spot has become that much more important. While adding appropriate pieces off the wire is always vital, it has become magnified that much more. With injures and Covid issues still a massive concern for some – gaining volume and targets can be found on the waiver. Let’s dive into this week’s edition of wavier wire targets.

Kirk Cousins (MIN) (28%)
Coming off a contest that wasn’t as favorable through the air, the Vikings used Dalvin Cook to generate most of the offense in week eight. Heading into week nine, Minnesota takes on the Lions who have been known to open the gates to passing yards. It may be a struggle to find a replacement passer – but Kirk Cousins could be that guy this week.
The Las Vegas Raiders have been somewhat up and down this season, but Derek Carr has put up sound numbers in positive matchups. Facing the Chargers who can’t seem to get out of their own way – we should see the pass game be plentiful this week. With Justin Herbert slinging the ball with proficiency, Carr will have to throw more in a contest that could be something of a shootout.
Admittedly, the Broncos Drew Lock hasn’t looked over the top great so far this season, but did look sharp in his comeback victory last week. Denver is a team that will compete on the regular, but hoping greater numbers will follow verse the Falcons is on the horizon. Even as Atlanta has improved on the defensive side – we could see Lock have another splendid contest. He could have a very sound day.
Kyle Allen (WAS) (5%)
Nick Foles (CHI) (9%)
Nick Mullens (SF) (1%)
Philip Rivers (IND) (19%)
Tua Tagovailoa (MIA) (31%)
Gus Edwards (BAL) (30%)
In a season filled with injury to the running back position, the Ravens next man up (Gus Edwards) will have his shot once again to lead the team in carries and yardage. With Mark Ingram once again unlikely to suit up for this contest, Edwards and J.K Dobbins will be the leaders in rushing in a very tough matchup against the Colts run defense. Still available in 70% of leagues – Edwards is a safe plug-in play.
With news coming out that the Packers are dealing with a Covid issue, Jamaal Williams and AJ Dillion will be unavailable for Thursday Night Football. Following the next man up approach, the Packers have Dexter Williams and Tyler Ervin who should get more work. Williams is the more experienced runner, but don’t discount Ervin in the pass game. By default, Williams is the man up for the most volume.
Coming off the bye, Washington will host the New York Giants and J.D McKissic should continue to have a role in the pass game. Even though Antonio Gibson is starting to take shape as the primary back on the offense, if you need a back this week with good upside in PPR – McKissic is a guy to look for.
Coming in relief for all the injured backs on this 49ers roster – JaMycal Hasty got plenty of touches but that didn’t materialize into great production. Now without George Kittle and Jimmy Garoppolo, we should witness more dedication to the run game between Hasty and Jerick McKinnon. For our money, McKinnon should be the main attraction for statistics, but Hasty will have a dedicated role. Still available in 58% or leagues – you could do a lot worse.
DeeJay Dallas (SEA) (25%)
Tyler Ervin (GB) (0%)
Jordan Wilkins (IND) (3%)
Wayne Gallman (NYG) (24%)
La’Mical Perine (NYJ) (41%)
Jordan Howard (MIA) (18%)
Tony Pollard (DAL) (18%)
Russell Gage (ATL) (13%)
With many trying to push positives for Calvin Ridley to return to the field of play this week, its highly unlikely that occurs. The next man up is Russell Gage as he is more than adept in taking passes and filling the stat sheet with numbers. Atlanta has been on a solid transition with interim head coach Raheem Morris running the show – so don’t be shocked to witness Gage find the endzone this week to replace Ridley.
We have been waiting to see the unleashing of Darnell Mooney, and we were finally treated to that success. The Bears played much better on offense last week as coach Matt Nagy seemed to utilize his entire pack of receivers. Mooney is extremely talented and has been playing ahead of Anthony Miller for the most part, which is a positive for fantasy football. Mooney is a bench stash right now with potential in matchup play.
The Colts have been one of the worst clubs in supporting the wide receiver position, but this could be the week PPR points come in bunches. TY Hilton has again found his way into the medical room with a groin injury which will lift up the services of Zach Pascal. Looking to have built a greater chemistry with Pascal over the past several contests – we believe this wide-out could be in for a sneaky good day. There is value here.
Recommending a pickup of a player on the bye week isn’t a normal transaction, however, Jalen Reagor needs to be rostered everywhere at this point. Coming back from injury and showing that prowess instantly – coming off their restful week should only lift the services of this pass catcher that much more. Between Reagor and Travis Fulgham, the Eagles have a pair of receivers that will take the top off of defenses. Get him on your bench this week before he gets pilfered off the wire.
Nelson Agholor (LVR) (41%)
Tim Patrick (DEN) (19%)
Preston Williams (MIA) (20%)
Randall Cobb (HOU) (16%)
David Moore (SEA) (2%)
Allen Lazard (GB) (34%)
Dez Bryant (BAL) (11%)
Trey Burton (IND) (22%)
Three weeks in a row we have suggested picking up the Colts Trey Burton, and three weeks in a row he has produced. The Colts offense is clearly favoring the tight end position and coach Frank Reich has a clear role for Burton. Targets have been steady with trick plays dedicated to his side in two of three weeks. He is a great play at this point.
The Houston Texans are rumored to have Will Fuller on the trade block, which would instantly lift Darren Fells up the ranks. He is a boom or bust player at the position but holds a glorious matchup this week verse the Jaguars. Having posted two great statistical games, followed by a complete dud – we could see him used this week a lot more. A touchdown could be had making him a potential great fill in tight end this week.
The Washington Football Team has altered their approach, and the secondary weapon in the pass game is starting to pull toward Logan Thomas. Thomas has always been gifted with athletic ability and has made the most of his opportunity these past few weeks. Facing the Giants in a must win contest – don’t be shocked to see his role continue to increase.
Jack Doyle (IND) (7%)
Greg Olsen (SEA) (15%)
Jordan Reed (SF) (3%)
Houston (6%) vs Jacksonville
