The season continues to roll amidst a scare of Covid cases attempting to derail games this week. The NFL has done a wonderful job thus far in being flexible in adjusting when games will be played. With that comes alteration to our fantasy rosters, as early bye-weeks for certain clubs is the result. Finding players on the wire will again be paramount in finding that success. Let’s dive into this week’s edition of wavier wire targets.

Justin Herbert (LAC) (52%)
If you missed the boat on this fabulous rookie prospect, don’t say we didn’t warn you. Last week we highlighted the pickup of Justin Herbert for reasons of being that bye-week filler. Now, the way in which he has preformed, Herbert can be trusted in being a weekly play. Still available in 48% of leagues, you may get lucky to secure his services but it will cost you far more in FAAB. Having the bye-week due to NFL schedule adjustments – he will have to be a bench stash this week but the future is bright.
The Minnesota Vikings have played better of late and Kirk Cousins has jumped back into the conversation of being that filler passer. Facing the Falcons in week six is a glorious matchup to get your team through times of need, and shouldn’t be overlooked this week. Minnesota will be without Dalvin Cook for this showdown which could lift the prospects of the pass attack to handle the load. This is a very attractive add.
To the dismay of all Dak Prescott owners, his season ending leg injury will undoubtedly derail your squad. While playing the wire weekly for a quarterback is the likely scenario to replace Prescott, Andy Dalton could be a notable under the radar pickup. Dalton has proven to be reliable in the past and has secured over 4000-yards in this league before. In a high-octane offense loaded with talent – it is possible his game lifts because of that. Don’t sleep on Dalton just yet.
Ryan Fitzpatrick (MIA) (21%)
Daniel Jones (NYG) (33%)
Kyle Allen (WAS) (3%)
Phillip Rivers (IND) (20%)
Baker Mayfield (CLE) (39%)
Nick Foles (CHI) (10%)
Alexander Mattison (MIN) (41%)
With all the running backs who have found their way into the medical room, this week is a natural gift for those owners. The Vikings Dalvin Cook tweaked his groin on Sunday Night and will sit out this week six showing, with the team’s bye-week the week after to rest up. Next man up is the electric Alexander Mattison who will be no worse for wear and will have a giant role in week six. Facing the Falcons and their terrible defense – pick up Mattison and fire him up with ease.
The Chargers issue at the running back position is clear as the scheme isn’t set up for Joshua Kelley to succeed at this point. With that said, Justin Jackson gets an uptick in this department as his usage in the pass game has been the reason. Until Austin Ekeler returns to the field, a full-blown multi-back set will be the way in which L.A moves froward. Jackson, like Kelley, will have a role in this offense and you could use his services in the coming weeks. Having the bye in week six – you will have to stash him on the bench before you can unleash him.
Mike Boone (MIN) (0%)
J.D McKissic (WAS) (6%)
D’Ernest Johnson (CLE) (40%)
K’Shawn Vaughn (TB) (8%)
Chris Thompson (JAX) (16%)
Travis Homer (SEA) (2%)
Duke Johnson (HOU) (28%)
Chase Claypool (PIT) (17%)
With the depth of the position heading into fantasy drafts, the abundance of playmaking pass catchers is staggering even on the wire. Chase Claypool was one of our sleeper picks from the offseason, as playing in the Steelers high-powered offense would give him every opportunity to succeed. Coming off a fabulous showing where four touchdowns graced the stat line – that shouldn’t be the standard, but usage will continue to rise. Get him on your roster.
With the growth of rookie Justin Herbert behind center, this Chargers offense sees a massive uptick in production down the stretch. Mike Williams has been something of an afterthought so far this season but witnessed the coming out party on Monday Night. With Keenan Allen injured in that contest with a back problem, Williams could see a large increase in targets forthcoming. He is worth getting on your roster if he’s there.
With all the issues on the Eagles roster in terms of lost time to top players, they may have struck gold in this former practice squad player. Travis Fulgham has made a name for himself the last two weeks and is likely a fixture in this offense moving forward. Even if Desean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery return to the field, we would be shocked to witness this receiver go back to the bench. There will be risk when others return, but Fulgham is a player you could exploit this week again.
This rookie draft class was truly loaded with talent and potential, and here we find another who could bear fruit in the coming weeks. DJ Chark was lost to injury last week and the jury is still out on if he’ll miss time. If that does occur, Laviska Shenault will jump into a starting role and receive a multitude of targets to come his way. Gifted with supreme skill and ability, we could see him utilized a far bit. Don’t forget about this receiver if you need a fill in.
We mentioned the possibility of this a few weeks ago, and it came to fruition in week five. With the firing of Bill O’Brien as their head coach, the alterations in offensive scheme would naturally change as well. The Texans are loaded with speed and showed they plan to utilize it moving forward. Brandin Cooks is a natural playmaker and will have open looks with proper usage of Will Fuller and David Johnson. The stock is rising and Cooks needs to be rostered.
Mecole Hardman has been one of these players who has be very difficult to trust thus far. The usage hasn’t been consistent enough to warrant a weekly play, but maybe we see that change in week six. Facing the Bills on Monday Night (schedule change), we could in fact witness the deep pass exploited to perfection. Adding to that, Sammy Watkins is now pegged to miss time to a hamstring issue, leaving Hardman to play a bigger role. He’s worth a look if you are stuck this week.
Preston Williams (MIA) (22%)
Tim Patrick (DEN) (17%)
Darnell Mooney (CHI) (1%)
Nelson Agholor (LVR) (2%)
Jalen Guyton (LAC) (1%)
Devin Duvernay (BAL) (1%)
Demarcus Robinson (KC) (1%)
Scotty Miller (TB) (28%)
Cole Beasley (BUF) (30%)
Olamide Zaccheaus (ATL) (8%)
Cedrick Wilson (DAL) (2%)
Randall Cobb (HOU) (19%)
Jimmy Graham (CHI) (41%)
Tight end has again become a big problem this season as production is limited at the best of times. With that, the re-emergence of Jimmy Graham being fantasy viable is back on the table with Nick Foles throwing the ball. Graham has been included in this offense to permit a weekly play at this point. Being more than just touchdown dependant, you could do a lot worse than this tight end moving forward.
With the loss of OJ Howard a couple weeks ago, Cameron Brate once again has life and could be a trusted player at the position. With all the injuries on this offense to this point, Brate saw a healthy six targets in week five and will always have a role in the redzone with touchdown upside. He will clearly be a risky play outside of matchup appeal – but like we said, this position is dire.
Trey Burton (IND) (1%)
Gerald Everett (LAR) (1%)
Greg Olsen (SEA) (29%)
Mo Alie-Cox (IND) (34%)
Darren Fells (HOU) (2%)
Minnesota (30%) vs Atlanta
