While the landscape of the NFL is very complex this season with Covid cases removing contests last week, finding adequate replacements continues to be important. Whether its more injuries to deal with or a last-minute roster moves to help supplant the losses from Covid, the waiver has become that much more important. Now isn’t the time to sleep on players to pickup as we hedge our bets all over our roster. Let’s dive into this week’s edition of wavier wire targets.

Teddy Bridgewater (CAR) (20%)
Admittedly, we haven’t sung the prises of the Panthers Teddy Bridgewater entering the season, but he has played admirably thus far. Coming off his best showing with a defense that is improving and getting the offense the ball back more often – Carolina faces the Falcons this week who can’t stop a cold. If you need a filler this week, Bridgewater is a great plug-in play.
Our stance on the Chargers offense going back to the offseason was - insert the young rookie dynamo over Tyrod Taylor. While an injury to Taylor opened the door for Justin Herbert to take the starting role, Herbert hasn’t disappointed and is playing very well. Having a glorious matchup against the Saints who are dealing with mammoth injuries on defense – this is a great pickup if you are desperate at the position for an upgrade.
With Covid taking the Titans out of play last week, Ryan Tannehill was dropped in enough leagues to make him available in 51% of them. Potentially facing the Bills in week five, there are steps in protocol that need to be passed before this contest moves forward. Nevertheless, if this game does go ahead, Tannehill is a decent bet to at least move the ball on a Bills defense that has had leaks to start the season. Watch the reports before you start him though.
The Giants have been a complete nightmare so far this season, but joy might come to pass this week as the Giants take on the Cowboys. Dallas hasn’t been great on defense whatsoever; in fact, they have been terrible. With the Dallas offense so high powered – Daniel Jones will have to throw all day to keep his club in the contest. Facing a defense with so many holes, this is a risk pickup and play, but worth a shot based on matchup.
Ryan Fitzpatrick (MIA) (33%)
Phillip Rivers (IND) (20%)
Baker Mayfield (CLE) (43%)
Brett Rypien (DEN) (1%)
CJ Beathard (SF) (0%)
Nick Foles (CHI) (15%)
Joshua Kelley (LAC) (56%)
Funny enough, the Chargers rookie Joshua Kelley still rests on the wire in 44% of leagues and will be thrust into the starting role with Austin Ekeler gone for multiple weeks. Kelley hasn’t looked great the past two contests but should improve with more volume. Facing the Satins defense that hasn’t been up to par this season, Kelley should be a top waiver add, if still resting on the waiver.
The stars keep dropping and the Browns Nick Chubb has also found himself on the injured reserve. A massive blow to this offense is clearly ahead, but Kareem Hunt is a very nice consolation prize. With that, D’Ernest Johnson now takes the backup role in hopes to ease Hunt and his workload. Looking sharp in last weeks win verse the Cowboys, Johnson is a must add with Hunt also dealing with a sore groin. Easy pickup and bench stash with hopes to play here.
The Patriots revolving door of running backs continues to be a problem for the fantasy community, and here we see another added. Damien Harris is a fan favorite among the fantasy community as they all want him to succeed. While we aren’t naysayers on the man, he isn’t our top waiver choice at this point due to the uncertainty of usage. His stock is rising with Sony Michel landing on injured reserve, so he is worth a roster spot.
Being very critical on the Buccaneers K’Shawn Vaughn at the start of the season, his opportunity is now with injuries to Leonard Fournette and LeSean McCoy. Vaughn does hold skillsets in the pass game which will be used with Tom Brady throwing the ball. No news just yet on Fournette’s availability, but Vaughn could be seen to have a good role if he is the backup to Ronald Jones. Watch this situation close.
Justin Jackson (LAC) (6%)
Rex Burkhead (NE) (46%)
Phillip Lindsay (DEN) (48%)
Travis Homer (SEA) (2%)
Duke Johnson (HOU) (19%)
Jeff Wilson (SF) (36%)
Carols Hyde (SEA) (27%)
Chase Edmonds (ARZ) (36%)
JyMycal Hasty (SF) (0%)
Scotty Miller (TB) (16%)
With the absence of Chris Godwin and OJ Howard, the Buccaneers offense is forced to exploit the talents of Scotty Miller. Miller has speed for days and is building great chemistry with Tom Brady, making for a great slot weapon on a weekly basis. Miller has hauled in 83 yards in back-to-back weeks with a touchdown also gracing his stat sheet. He is a must add at this point with weekly flex appeal coming.
Over the past two weeks, Tee Higgins has received a healthy 16 targets supplanting the long-time veteran AJ Green in the process. It appears that Green is now the afterthought and chemistry between him and Joe Burrow hasn’t come to fruition just yet. With that, Higgins is a natural benefactor in this situation with lesser coverage directed to his side. Higgins is a must own with flex appeal moving forward.
The Buffalo Bills offense has proven to be very exciting and able to support all the weapons they have on the field. Slot playmaker (Cole Beasley) is now front and center to be that trusted PPR talent. Josh Allen and company are firing on near all cylinders and should continue as the competition gets tougher. Beasley has the trust of Allen in crunch time and his quarterback is always looking in his direction when that time comes. A very safe floor is starting to form here.
When the Broncos lost Courtland Sutton for the season, the replacement for the X-receiver position was up in the air. Tim Patrick was the clear next man up and has preformed very well in the past two contests. No matter who the quarterback is throwing him the ball, Patrick is turning into a player we can all love to start. He needs to be owned at this point.
We knew it would take some time for Mecole Hardman to become a thing in Kansas City, simply because of all the weapons they hold. Still not having the role we expected, the target share is starting to form. Hardman is still touchdown dependent to be fantasy viable, but he is worth grabbing at this point just in case he explodes or an injury occurs.
On the Radar:
Olamide Zaccheaus (ATL) (2%)
Cedrick Wilson (DAL) (2%)
Jalen Guyton (LAC) (0%)
N’Keal Harry (NE) (35%)
Gabriel Davis (BUF) (2%)
Andy Isabella (ARZ) (8%)
Randall Cobb (HOU) (23%)
Chase Claypool (PIT) (10%)
Laviska Shenault (JAX) (24%)
Mo Alie-Cox (IND) (33%)
The tight end position is a very tough one to endorse, but Mo Alie-Cox is showing that he can be trusted. Even though Alie-Cox is somewhat touchdown dependant, Phillip Rivers is looking in his direction more often than not. Having secured touchdowns in the last two contests while earning good yards in two of three – this is a tight end we will all trust in the coming weeks. A great matchup this week is on the docket again.
In basic form, fire up all tight ends verse the Atlanta Falcons and this week’s potential big earner is Ian Thomas. So far, Teddy Bridgewater hasn’t been able to feed the position a great deal, but this should be the week that all changes. It will be a risky plug-in play, but one that could bring massive points in the process.
The man who just blew up Monday night football, Robert Tonyan had himself a George Kittle type of day. With the Packers on the bye week, it will be your choice if you claim him to sit on your bench. When the Packers return to the field in week six, Davante Adams should be back from injury which could drop the overall target share for this tight end. This situation is very fluid and we’ll need to see one more game before we fully endorse. Nevertheless, he could be a fabulous bench stash with big numbers to follow – time will tell.
Greg Olsen (SEA) (22%)
Eric Ebron (PIT) (27%)
Tyler Eifert (JAX) (9%)
Jordan Akins (HOU) (13%)
Drew Sample (CIN) (3%)
Arizona (49%) vs NY Jets
