Well this is it, the start of the
playoffs for most fantasy leagues and its paramount to have the best lineup in
place to win.
Upon review of all teams and
players, many seem to have great matchups which will give many the advantage. Typically,
we will promote starting the players that got you here, but in some circumstances,
playing the better matchup is key. We ride with you all to lift that coveted fantasy
trophy! Lets GO!
START - GET THEM IN YOUR LINEUP
Quarterbacks:
At this point of the season, how can you not appreciate the play of
the Titans Ryan Tannehill? Since taking over as the team starting quarterback,
Tannehill has been great in helping your team gain productivity. Facing the
Raiders this week in an A-plus matchup, all signs point to more of the same.
Tennessee continues to use the run as the primary option but it only helps the
pass game. Another strong day is on the horizon.
Carson Wentz (PHI)
The Philadelphia Eagles are coming off a disastrous loss to the
Dolphins last week and will have to bring their best in week 14 verse the lowly
Giants. While the stat sheet looked very strong for Wentz against the Dolphins,
the team as a whole will be amped for this contest as they desperately need a
win. Wentz got Alshon Jeffery back and used him quite often which should again
be the case. Wentz should repeat his line from last week.
Running Backs:
We said it last week, and we will again ride the train of the Titans
Derrick Henry. For some reason he flips a switch in the later portions of the
season and looks like the best running back in the NFL. Henry has literally
been unstoppable these past several weeks, and facing a Raiders defense that is
struggling at the best of times, we should see another massive outburst. Henry
is poised to be your championship runner!
Patrick Laird (MIA)
Recommending the start of the Dolphins Patrick Laird is something I
never thought I would suggest. Nevertheless, the Fins will be on the road to
face the Jets without Jamal Adams on the field. Why is that important, simply
put he is the catalyst on this defense. Without him wreaking havoc, we will see
the Fins move up and down the field. This is more of a desperation start and
should be used if you have no other viable option.
Kareem Hunt (CLE)
Since the return of Kareem Hunt from suspension, we have been giant
supporters of the potential. Since coming back, Hunt has had a clear role on
the offense and continues to pile up solid production in the process. Having a
fantastic matchup verse the Bengals this week, we should see a healthy dose of
both Nick Chubb and Hunt making for a great day for all. Easy start with high
potential is here.
Wide Receivers:
Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought DeVante Parker would
grace a start recommendation this late into the season. Needless to say, Parker
has been a great fantasy earner for most of the season and keeps turning up the
heat. Having played brilliantly last week, we should see much of the same on
the Jets with no Jamal Adams. Parker is locked and loaded to have another sound
day.
Robert Woods (LAR)
The man that continues to pile up the numbers without finding the
endzone, the Rams Robert Woods will again be leaned upon to help the Rams to
victory. LA is in a dire situation where their playoff lives hang in the
balance and will need the entire arsenal to overcome the Seahawks. Coach Sean McVay
fed Woods to the tune of 18-targets last week and we could see much of the same
here. Perhaps we finally will witness an endzone trip as well for Mr. Woods,
but either way he is again a sound start.
Jarvis Landry (CLE)
We’ve preached this more than once and will continue to do the same.
Heading back to the start of the season, our thought process had a greater role
for Jarvis Landry when Odell Beckham came to the club, and it’s come to
fruition. As the season has moved forward, Landry has seen the fruits of that
labor turning out sound games. This week should be no different and we could
again see him carve up this Bengals defense. Get ready for more from this PPR
machine.
Tight-Ends:
Based on matchup, we could easily have placed Sam Darnold on the
start list and really do like the potential. Either way, his tight end Ryan
Griffin should again see decent levels of statistical achievement. Griffin has
been trusted more and more and holds a great opportunity verse the Fins this
week. Fire him up with confidence.
Kyle Rudolph (MIN)
With the Vikings ruling out Adam Thielen and will again be on the
sidelines watching this contest, Kyle Rudolph will again see his role increase
in the redzone. Having shown sure hands these past few weeks with one handed
receptions in the endzone, Rudolph has become that trusted player for Kirk Cousins.
Facing the Lions which looks extremely favorable on paper, he should reward you
with more points.
SIT - LEAVE THEM ON THE BENCH
This recommendation to sit Drew Brees is more cautionary rather than
a certainty. The 49ers haven’t given up more than 200 yards through the air
since week two. While we could make the argument that the 49ers schedule has
been rather weak this season, we still can’t discount everything this defense
does well. Brees will be under pressure all day which will limit the overall
point totals. This is a buyer-beware start for week 14.
Kyler Murray (ARZ)
While we still believe in the talents and positive growth of the
Cardinals Kyler Murray, this is another week we will choose to keep him on the
bench. Pittsburgh is in the middle of a dog fight for the final wildcard spot,
and will use the blitz to force Murray to be uneven. Murray should have some
sound plays with his legs; it won’t be near enough to warrant a start this
week.
Running Backs:
Granted the Patriots one weakness on defense this season has been
stopping the run game, they have shown improvement over the past couple weeks.
LeSean McCoy is clearly on the back nine of his career and hasn’t looked overly
dominate all season. There is value for Shady in the pass game this week as
Andy Reid will likely have seen the usage from Duke Johnson a week prior.
Nevertheless, our fear is too large to place McCoy in the starting lineup this
week.
Tevin Coleman (SF)
Yet another player we have a great affinity for, the 49ers Tevin
Coleman has once again disappeared in terms of generating healthy numbers.
Coach Kyle Shanahan is not afraid to pull the plug on any player on this
offense who can’t find room. Coleman hasn’t been a top commodity for the last
five weeks and it gets no easier verse the Saints this week. Keep him riding
the pine for the first round of the playoffs.
Ronald Jones (TB)
Here we go again, the Buccaneers Ronald Jones has once again found
himself in a secondary situation behind teammate Peyton Barber. There continues
to be no indication of who will lead the team in carries as it was clear Coach
Bruce Arians was unhappy with Jones’ pass protection. Either way, there is no
conceivable thought which could allow us to start Jones this week.
Wide Receivers:
While the Baltimore Ravens keep moving like a well-oiled machine, we
really question whether Hollywood Brown will be able to find traction against
the Bills great secondary. Tre White has been absolutely lock down this season
and should be shadowing Hollywood for most of the day. Brown may receive a few
deep shots to help spread the Bills defense off the line, but unless a
touchdown is the result, his day will be meek.
Brandin Cooks (LAR)
It’s come to the point that we can no longer say anything positive
for the Rams Brandin Cooks. For where his services would’ve been drafted this
offseason, the return on investment has been nothing but a bust. The Rams have
shown attempts to rebound with better efficiency in the pass game, but Cooks
has become third in line behind Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp. The bench is
where he belongs.
Tight-Ends:
Even though we have liked what the Saints Jared Cook has done for
the most part in this offense, this matchup is one of the worst of the week.
Finding tight ends to take his place will be an obvious issue, but anything
should be better than Cook verse the 49ers. Cook may save his day with a
touchdown, but the risk is far too high to gamble in our minds.
POTENTIAL BIG DAY – ALL ABOUT THE RISK/REWARD
Quarterbacks:
Suggesting the 49ers Jimmy Garoppolo will have a monster day against
the Saints strong defense can be viewed as crazy, but there is room for pass
plays to be explosive on this defense. Outside of Marshon Lattimore, the Saints
secondary does have holes which should be music to Garoppolo’s ears. There is a
risk involved with this play, but the stats could be very solid when it’s over.
Kirk Cousins (MIN)
The Vikings Kirk Cousins attempted to remove the lack of clutch
persona from his resume last week in Seattle, but nothing materialized and
Minnesota found another loss. This week heading back home and facing the Lions
who have a rookie quarterback running the show (David Blough), Cousins will
need to get his troops firing early and often. A heavy rebound game is
something we can really see happening here, especially with Dalvin Cook playing
hurt.
Running Backs:
While this looks to be a no brainer, LeVeon Bell hasn’t been much of
a baller in 2019. Recent reports have also indicated that Bell is dealing with
an illness which could preclude him from playing altogether. If Bell does find
a way onto the field, he should muster enough to be a very productive player.
We haven’t seen the Bell of old come to play so far this season, but could this
be the game he explodes, we shall see.
James White (NE)
We preached the play of James White last week and will hop right on
the wagon once again in week 14. It was inevitable in our mind that White should
become a greater aspect of this offense with how poor the receivers have
played. Tom Brady will have the luxury of playing the Chiefs leaky defense, and
we could absolutely see White again being a featured piece to the puzzle.
Leonard Fournette (JAX)
While Leonard Fournette has been a steady player for most of the
season, his lack of touchdown scores has limited the overall top end
production. This week facing the Chargers whose season has too fell by the
wayside, we could see little effort in stopping the Jags run game. Adding to
the positives, Gardner Minshew will be back behind center lifting the overall
aspect of this offense. A great game is on the docket here.
Wide Receivers:
We emphatically suggested the benching of the Lions Kenny Golladay
last week with David Blough taking over as the team’s starter. It was legit
like a kick in the teeth after witnessing Blough find Golladay all over the
field verse the Bears. This week we won’t make that same mistake and have seen
enough to at least drop the risk factor and play Golladay. Minnesota might
bring the heat for most of the game in hopes to rattle Blough, but we’ll gamble
here and start this stud.
Tyler Boyd (CIN)
With Andy Dalton back behind center for the Bengals, Tyler Boyd
comes back from the dead in terms of potential high-end achievements. Adding to
that positive, teammate John Ross will be back in the lineup which too will
provide lesser coverage to Boyd’s side. At this point Boyd has been doing
everything on his own, but now will have help to gain more points.
John Brown (BUF)
While we understand how well the Ravens have been playing on
defense, this is a revenge game of sorts for the Bills John Brown. Having
played with the Ravens last season, he will have some level of wanting to stick
it to the team that chose not to resign him. Also, there is a chance that
Buffalo could be blown out of the water by Lamar Jackson and company, leaving
the door open to a hefty amount of garbage time points. The risk could be worth
the reward.
Tight End:
With all the injuries to the Colts pass catchers, the no brainer
start on this offense has to be Jack Doyle. With Eric Ebron placed on injured
reserve, it was clear last week in how Frank Reich plans to keep using Doyle in
this offense. Holding a very solid matchup against the Bucs who hemorrhage
points to the position, Doyle could be the top tight end for week 14.
