Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire Targets

As we enter the half way point of the NFL season, there is only six more weeks of the fantasy regular season left. For those gearing up for a post season berth, rounding out your depth will be vastly important. For those other managers hanging on by a thread, there is still opportunity to edge out those wins with sound pickups off the wire.

Surprisingly enough, the waiver wire does hold quite a few players that could help your situation. Let’s dive into this week’s edition of wavier targets.

Quarterbacks:
Jacoby Brissett (IND) (49%)
At this point, we can no longer ignore how well the Colts Jacoby Brissett has been playing. Coach Frank Reich has this club playing very good football, and Brissett seems to be turning a corner in terms of his progression. On top of that, the Colts have a favorable upcoming schedule that will be conducive to fantasy production. If you require a quarterback, you could do a lot worse than Brissett.

Ryan Tannehill (TEN) (5%)
We at ADF will take a giant victory lap on this one as we preached the benching of Marcus Mariota going back to the offseason in favor of Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill is far more put together and will expel the most from this talented offense. As seen last week, Tannehill was efficient and will only continue to grow with more practice time. Don’t sleep on this offense with him behind center.

Mason Rudolph (PIT) (7%)
Simply placed here for the current week eight matchup, the Steelers face off against the Miami Dolphins which should promote fantasy relevance. Mason Rudolph should suit up this week coming off the bye and his horrible concussion suffered a couple weeks prior. If you’re stuck, watch the injury report and snag Rudolph for a great matchup.

Teddy Bridgewater (NO) (17%)
Teddy Bridgewater has been nothing short of impressive in respect to carrying the Saints team in the absence of Drew Brees. From the fantasy perspective, he has been hit-and-miss and lifts his level of pay verse weaker opponents. This week facing the Cardinals defense that gives up yards in bunches, he could have a very sound day. Granted Brees may return for this contest, keep an eye on the news reports.

On the Radar:
Matt Moore (KC) (1%)
Gardner Minshew (JAX) (52%)
Kyle Allen (CAR) (8%)
Sam Darnold (NYJ) (33%)

Running Backs:
Chase Edmonds (ARZ) (49%)
Coming off a monster performance against the Giants last week, news has broken suggesting that David Johnson is dealing with more pain than originally anticipated. With Johnson looking to miss the next couple weeks, Edmonds has the lead role in his hands and looks to prove more of the same. Available in nearly 50% of leagues, this will be your last chance to grab him off the wire.

Ty Johnson (DET) (4%)
More injuries cloud the landscape, and once again the Lions Kerryon Johnson finds his way into the medical room. Enter backup Ty Johnson to the mix as he is more than capable to carry the load. Johnson in his own right is a sound runner that can support this offense with ease. The way the pass game has been moving this season, Johnson will be a welcome sight. Very high priority off the wire rests with this Johnson.

Wendell Smallwood (WAS) (1%)
If you’re in full on desperation mode this week, the Redskins Wendell Smallwood should be a consideration with Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson banged up and potentially missing this week’s contest. Facing the Vikings on Thursday Night will be no easy task, Smallwood may get the majority of the touches leaving for great volume. Garbage time points could be very large here.

Kareem Hunt (CLE) (54%)
As we suggested a week ago, snagging Kareem Hunt off the wire and placing him as a bench stash is the play here. Already owned in 54% of leagues, there won’t be many more opportunities to secure his services. With how the Browns have performed this season, adding another viable runner to the mix will be a welcomed sight. With fantasy playoffs approaching, adding depth will go a very long way.

On the Radar:
Mark Walton (MIA) (20%)
Alexander Mattison (MIN) (25%)
Darrell Henderson (LAR) (31%)
Benny Snell (PIT) (6%)
Jay Ajayi (FA) (3%)

Wide Receivers:
Corey Davis (TEN) (41%)
If you didn’t listen to us last week, shame on you. We threw full support to Ryan Tannehill and his receivers and they returned the favor with sound production. Corey Davis returns to the fold as a top pass catcher in the league with a viable passer behind center. Moving forward, this will be the last week you have a shot to secure his services, and we fully recommend doing so. All receivers on the Titans get a massive uptick.

Kenny Stills (HOU) (15%)
Surprise, surprise, the Texans Will Fuller has been injured once again, but this time the Texans won’t miss a beat. This was the reason Houston traded for the speedy Kenny Stills for this exact situation. Losing Fuller shouldn’t be felt as much now and Stills will pick up the pieces. He should be looked upon as a top priority in this offense which can explode in any contest. Get him on your club ASAP!

Olabisi Johnson (MIN) (0%)
Speculation addition this week rests with the Vikings Olabisi Johnson. Hearing rumor that Adam Thielen will likely miss the contest to that hamstring injury, this rookie showed very well last week in his place. There will be potential for Johnson to be that over the middle slot presence, but it is contingent on Thielen’s status.

AJ Brown (TEN) (17%)
To a lesser extent, but not by much, the Titans rookie dynamo AJ Brown should be on you radar this week to snag off the wire. Brown has skill for days and should feast on this week’s opponent – the Buccaneers. With Ryan Tannehill looking poise to get the Titans back in the playoff mix, Brown will have a very big role moving forward. If you miss out on Corey Davis, Brown is a great consolation prize.

*Special note: if you miss on both Davis and Brown – grab Adam Humphries as it is a revenge game verse his old team this week.

On the Radar:
Adam Humphries (TEN) (5%)
Zach Pascal (IND) (1%)
DaeSean Hamilton (DEN) (6%)
Danny Amendola (DET) (6%)
Alex Erickson (CIN) (2%)
Keke Coutee (HOU) (14%)
Jakobi Meyers (NE) (5%)
Pharoh Cooper (ARZ) (0%)

Tight-Ends:
Ben Watson (NE) (5%)
As the New England Patriots attempt to find more weapons for Tom Brady to throw too, Ben Watson once again becomes relevant on this offense. Tight end has been a disaster again this season, but on this club, there is earning potential. Not a bad pick up and play here.

Jonnu Smith (TEN) (0%)
If you can see the notion at this point, we have lifted all Titans pass catchers and rightfully so. Tight end Jonnu Smith will see targets on this offense with teammate Delaine Walker out with an ankle injury. It will be difficult at times for Ryan Tannehill to find all his receivers, but there is value here.

Vance McDonald (PIT) (50%)
Based on matchup alone, the Steelers Vance McDonald does hold some value this week. This season hasn’t been what most expected from McDonald, but we could see this week bringing with it good fortune. Finding anything credible at the tight end position will be a welcomed sight. Matchup play is large here.

Irv Smith (MIN) (1%)
The Vikings Irv Smith rests on the list this week simply due to the injury of Adam Thielen. Much like Olabisi Johnson, Smith has an opportunity to make waves in helping the Vikings overcome the loss. Targets will be spread out if Thielen misses time, and this rookie has good value to be a player.

On the Radar:
Cameron Brate (TB) (1%)
Mike Gesicji (MIA) (1%)
Dawson Knox (BUF) (27%)
Chris Herndon (NYJ) (29%)
Josh Oliver (JAX) (1%)

Week 8 Defensive Streams:
Pittsburgh Steelers (50%) – Playing Miami
Green Bay Packers (60%) – Playing Kansas City
Seattle Seahawks (47%) – Playing Atlanta
Detroit Lions (9%) – Playing NY Giants
Indianapolis Colts (14%) – Playing Denver
Houston Texans (43%) – Playing Oakland
