With a handful of
weeks left in the fantasy season, finding those key starts to provide victories
has become that much more important to lift your squad. Some great matchups sit
ripe for the taking this week as we examine the potential for the best output.
Aside from the obvious starters, we believe we have found a slew of players
that will show out in week 10. Subsequently, there are a few players with big
names that we feel could bust this week hence our recommendations to keep them
on your bench. Crunch time is upon us, so mistakes can’t be had this week. Let’s
get it, good luck….

Quarterbacks:
Philip Rivers (LAC)
Coming off a fairly decisive win last week in Seattle, Philip Rivers and
the Chargers continue to roll showing they are indeed worth the price of
admission. Having a juicy matchup against the Oakland Raiders who give up the 6th
most to fantasy quarterbacks and have all but packed it in for the season,
starting Rivers should look extremely plentiful after the game concludes.
Baker Mayfield (CLE)
While Baker and the
Browns keep finding themselves on the wrong side each and every week dropping
contests that could be victories, this week verse the Falcons could bring good
fortune. Atlanta gives up the 3rd most to players at the position
and normally struggle on the road. If Baker wanted to prove he was indeed the
best quarterback to come out of this draft, a win here would do wonders. Mayfield
hasn’t been able to over produce so far this year but could have a very solid
day at home. For bye-week fillers, Baker is a solid option.
Eli Manning (NYG)
Even though Eli Manning
looks to be riding into the sunset of a solid career showing a great drop off
in ability, coming off the bye-week against the 49ers who struggle on defense
should bring at least one more great performance. Closing out week 10 on Monday
Night Football, Eli and the Giants should have a sound game plan for Barkley to
dominate the offensive snaps leaving Manning to find his talented receiving
core off the play action. 20+ points from Eli should be the floor in this
contest.
Running Backs:
Mark Ingram (NO)
Our recommendation to start Ingram last week fell by the wayside, but in
our defense, he was used on the goal line exactly like we predicted, simply the
outcome didn’t transpire. This week going up against the Bengals who really
struggle to stop the run, Ingram and Kamara should again dominate the offensive
production. With recent news that newly signed receiver Dez Bryant has been
lost for the season, and the Saints dealing with injures at the position, we
fully expect a heavy dose of running from New Orleans on the road. Ingram will
have a good bounce back performance.
Leonard Fournette (JAX)
HE’s BACK! Much like
most who gave up a top draft selection to secure his services, we are excited
to see Leonard Fournette back on the field where he belongs. Reviewing the
injury report and noticing that Leonard has been completely removed, we are
very encouraged with the prospects. The Jags are coming off the bye and looking
to re-assimilate their run attack to assist the pass game while keeping the
defense fresh on the sidelines. There is a bust factor to starting Fournette
this week as rust could be on his tires, but we have had him in the shed for
far too long, we are starting him and not looking back.
Duke Johnson (CLE)
With the coaching change
over in Cleveland, last week saw intelligent play calling to deliver the ball
to one of the better playmakers they possess on the roster. Duke Johnson is a
matchup nightmare for most clubs coming out of the back field and has a
glorious matchup this week against the Falcons. Duke should again be used in
bunches collecting massive PPR points once again. Trading Carlos Hyde a few
weeks ago gave the impression that Cleveland would use the talented back more
frequently, and he should be a top producer yet again this week.
Tarik Cohen (CHI)
While last week
against the Bills, Tarik Cohen took a giant back seat to production to his
teammate Jordan Howard, but this week has the makings to see him back in the
game plan. The Detroit Lions struggle supremely in defending running backs leaving
the door wide open to seeing Cohen generate massive points. His previous four
weeks (aside from last week) Tarik has produced a whopping 82.14 fantasy points
for the Bears and will be highlighted once again this week. Game plan specific approaches
from coach Nagy will provide touches to his speedy back.
Wide Receivers:
Sterling Shepard (NYG)
As the 49ers struggle to stop most anyone on defense this season, while guarding
the top players normally pull target share to secondary receivers leaving Shepard
a primary benefactor this week to produce. Sterling has seen his share of ups
and downs this season, but when he has been featured in the offense, he has garnered
very good production. Odell Beckham should draw double teams for most of the
night making Shepard possess great potential for your club.
Tyrell Williams (LAC)
Basically, for the
rest of the season, anyone going up against the Oakland Raiders should be given
consideration to start, and this week we could see Williams find the endzone
once again. Tyrell has been the homerun threat all season in this offense
seeing 4 to 5 deep shots come his way in hopes to spread out opposing defenses.
The one concern with promoting Tyrell is the lack of usage to production he
could generate. Limited target share is never a positive, but we feel Williams
could burn the Raiders more than once this week. High confidence for this start
in our books.
Tyler Boyd (CIN)
With their star AJ
Green on the shelf for the next couple weeks, Tyler Boyd instantly becomes the
target hog in this offense in Green’s absence. Offering up a must start to Boyd
does come with concern as we have reservations on if he can consistently beat
top coverage corners to make that difference. His supporting cast may find
greater production if Tyler struggles to get open. With that said, Boyd has a
prime opportunity to create chunk plays against the Saints who give up the most
to players at the receiver position. Playing from behind could also garner
garbage time production. Boyd should have a very sound day.
Marvin Jones (DET)
While some believe
that Kenny Golladay will see the most uptick in production without Golden Tate
on the roster, we certainly question that resolve. Golladay will continue to
see days of struggle going up against the top defensive backs in the league as
he learns to break free. Marvin Jones on the other hand will continue to see
lesser coverage come to his side leaving greater opportunity to create plays. The
Bears are a group that give up middle of the pack numbers to opposing receivers
which should allow Jones to find room more than once. Marvin will continue to
beat out Kenny for production, at least this week.
Tight-Ends:
OJ Howard (TB)
When we at ADF selected
OJ Howard in our fantasy draft back this summer, we had high hopes that he
would in fact become the top tight-end on this offense. Fortunately for us, Howard
has been trusted with the top role every week and hasn’t disappointed with very
sound numbers. Howard and the Bucs will be tested this week against the
Redskins who have improved on defense minus the egg they dropped last week on
the Falcons. Howard could be a big contributor as Washington will do their best
to lockdown the receivers Tampa employs. Howard should find the endzone once
again this week.
SIT - LEAVE THEM ON THE BENCH
Quarterbacks:
Matt Ryan (ATL)
Normally the trend for
Matt Ryan and the Falcons on the road would suggest great failure to which they
bucked that notion last week. Facing off against the Browns who have played
great defensively for most contests this season, we find it difficult to
believe that Ryan will again find that magic from last week once again on the
road. Atlanta should find their run attack to be the largest producer in this
one while Matty-Ice plays conservative trying not to turn the ball over. Our
past experience with Ryan out of the dome gives us great fear and lack of trust
to start this week.
Andrew Luck (IND)
Andrew Luck and the
Colts have performed admirably these last numbers of weeks offensively but that
should come to and end against the rested Jaguars. While Jacksonville hasn’t been
able to replicate their dominance on defense like we witnessed last season,
this is the do-or-die week that we’ll stand behind them to make a difference.
Luck has enjoyed better protection from his offensive line which will be tested
this week. With the season on the line in a massive divisional matchup, Luck
could have decent numbers, but we’ll stick with the projections of not starting.
Running Backs:
Kerryon Johnson (DET)
The Chicago Bears have been very sound on defense this season and the Lions
look to be regressing each week, forcing us to have no choice but to bench the
impressive rookie for this week’s contest. The Bears give up the fewest points
to fantasy runners and with an offensive line that struggles to keep Stafford
off the turf, the run game will too struggle to gain traction in this one.
There are far better matchups at running back to trust over Johnson, sit him
this week.
Corey Clement (PHI)
The Eagles have proven
that they can’t sustain a run attack with the backs they currently have on
their roster and that will continue this week against the Cowboys. Clement will
continue to see sharing of carries with Josh Adams which will limit his overall
production. Clement always has an upside of PPR points in this offense, but that
too could see a down-tick with Golden Tate now on the roster. Boom-or-bust will
be Clements outlook moving forward and we don’t like his perspectives this week.
Isaiah Crowell (NYJ)
The New York Jets prepare
to face off against the Bills who have played fairly decent verse opponents
that mirror talent of themselves. Even in great matchups, Crowell has proven to
be unreliable to trust in a starting role. Buffalo’s defense has fallen victim
to an offense that can’t sustain any drives leaving them gassed by the third quarter.
Crowell could happen to break a couple runs this week, but the overall thought
that Isaiah would be a top earner isn’t something we can endorse.
Wide Receivers:
Taylor Gabriel (CHI)
The Bears have been solid these last few weeks and could again find their
way to producing solid numbers, but Taylor Gabriel could find a backseat to generating
anything of great value. Allen Robinson is once again questionable to play in this
one leaving the outlook for Gabriel lower seeing more coverage come his way.
Taylor is a homerun hitter in his own right but has been limited these last
three weeks. Don’t like the potential of this play against the Lions stout pass
defense.
Nelson Agholor (PHI)
The forgotten man in
this Eagles offense has been Nelson Agholor and that should become worse now
that Golden Tate is on the team. Essentially playing the same slot position,
Tate will get first crack at passes from Carson Wentz making Nelson a gimmick
player moving forward. It will become impossible to trust anything from
Agholor.
Tyler Lockett (SEA)
While the Hawks Tyler
Lockett has been something of a revelation this season, this week will prove to
be a difficult challenge going up against the Rams that look to improve on the
defensive side of the ball. Seattle has been more productive when they
establish the run game providing those deep shots to Lockett. The Rams will undoubtedly
try and correct their inefficiencies this week as a tune up before they face
the Chiefs next Monday Night. Lockett could get free in this one, but the risk
is far to great.
Tight-Ends:
Eric Ebron (IND)
Now that Jack Doyle is
back and taking his place as the top tight-end on the Colts offense, Eric Ebron
will now be regulated to a supportive role having his biggest opportunity in
the redzone. Its not hard to suggest a touchdown could be on the docket each
week for Ebron, but we are banking hard that the Jags will come out strong in
this contest. Ebron will disappoint this week.
POTENTIAL BIG DAY – ALL ABOUT THE RISK/REWARD
Quarterbacks
Andy Dalton (CIN)
Going up against the
Saints high-powered offense should keep the Bengals Andy Dalton throwing in
hopes to keep up score for score. While we don’t believe the Bengals will be
able to compete for long stretches in this contest, Andy could find himself a
great benefactor to fantasy production.
Alex Smith (WAS)
The Skins took one on
the chin last week to the Falcons but have potential to put up good numbers
against the Buccaneers who give up the most to fantasy quarterbacks. Smith hasn’t
been able to generate over 20 points thus far this season, but this could be
the week for a season best outing.
Running Backs:
Austin Ekeler (LAC)
The Oakland Raiders have proven they have packed it in for the 2018
season leaving a defense with more holes than swiss cheese. Austin Ekeler will
benefit from greater usage once this contest is out of hand taking a more prominent
role while seeing Melvin Gordon on the sidelines. Ekeler should find the
endzone in mop up duties this week.
Aaron Jones (GB)
The Packers have shown
their weaknesses as a club but continue to not feed the run attack which should
change against the Dolphins. Jones is a talented runner that requires more
touches to improve, and seeing a winnable contest in the wings, Aaron should
see his fair share of usage. We could see touchdowns all day from Jones.
Nick Chubb (CLE)
Running the ball will
become the most important weapon the Browns this week in hopes to keep Matt
Ryan and the Falcons offense on the sidelines. Controlling the clock and eating
up chunk yards will be a great support to Baker Mayfield finding his receivers
down field. Facing a defense that struggles to stop the run, Chubb will have a
sound day.
Wide Receivers:
DeSean Jackson (TB)
The Bucs again showed no issue in throwing the ball last week, but Fitzpatrick
went away from most of his top targets. Looking to rebound and making better
effort to feeding the talent they employ, D-Jax could see an expanded role with
Josh Norman shadowing Mike Evans for most of the day. Jackson should see his
target share increase greatly.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling (GB)
With his teammates drawing
most of the attention on game day, Valdes-Scantling has been a revelation generating
nothing less than 10 PPR points in the last four contests. That trend should
again continue this week as the Fins talented defensive back Xavien Howard
should be locked in on Davante Adams for most of the afternoon. MVS has earned
the trust of Rodgers thus far and should continue to produce.
Maurice Harris (WAS)
Seeing his breakout
party last week, the Skins Maurice Harris is again primed and ready to see a
whopping amount of target share come his way against one of the worst defenses
against the pass. Harris saw 12 targets go for 124 yards making it a very impressive
day. Its not out of the question to see Maurice find the endzone this week with
Crowder and Richardson out once again for the Skins.
Tight-Ends:
Jordan Reed (WAS)
Jordan Reed has been nothing spectacular
this season but that should change this week with the amount of injures the
Skins have on the offensive side of the ball. Smith hasn’t been able to find
much chemistry with his talented tight-end leaving his owners always wanting
more. Could this be the week Reed gets back in the endzone, we truly believe he
will.
