While some may feel that waiver wires are starting to
become extremely thin, we see the opportunity to add depth pieces to your
roster as we enter the glut of four team bye-weeks. This is perhaps the most
important time of the season where the difference in winning and losing will be
felt with how well you supplant the missing parts of your roster with secondary
and rising players. Big names highlight this week’s bye leaving some managers scrounging
for help. We have found quite a few players with good matchups to help ease the
pain. Let’s get to it…

BYE WEEK: Packers, Raiders,
Steelers, Seahawks
Quarterbacks:
Mitchell Trubisky
(CHI) (30%)
Young teams on the rise need
to figure out how to win close games to turn the corner from pretender to
contender. The Chicago Bears dropped a must win contest last week against the
Dolphins leaving most to question what this club really is. Even with their
uneven play at times, young Mitchell Trubisky has proven he can play in this
league under the tutelage of Coach Matt Nagy. While there are many aspects of
this offense that need refining, Trubisky has been a fantasy darling over his
last two contests piling up 54.10 and 32.23 fantasy points respectively. Going
up against the Patriots in week seven who give up the 7th most to
fantasy quarterbacks, Mitchell should be throwing quite a bit in attempts to
match scores from Tom Brady. Very solid potential to replace your quarterback who’s
on the bye.
Eli
Manning (NYG) (22%)
While we fully understand that the Giants Eli Manning
hit rock-bottom last week and most would be reluctant to pick up the aged quarterback
all together, the matchup has us intrigued. With the plethora of bye-weeks
possibly affecting your squad leaving Rodgers, Roethlisberger, and Wilson
unplayable, Eli may be your best option. Having a stellar matchup against the
Falcons defense who is prone to giving up points in bunches to fantasy
quarterbacks, there is good potential for Eli to have a bounce back contest.
Owned in only 22% of leagues, Manning could be your guy to help you limp through
this week.
Dak Prescott (DAL) (32%)
The Dallas Cowboys came out with a perfect game plan
against the best defense in the NFL laying an utter smack on their opponent.
Dak Prescott saw his best contest of the season last week against the Jaguars
where he looked rather precise and proficient in the process. While we still
have our reservations on Prescott moving forward, you may not have a choice but
to put in a claim and start the enigmatic quarterback for this week. Going up
against the Redskins in a massive mid-season divisional showdown, it’s
difficult to not see A+ effort from Dak. Washington gives up middle of the pack
numbers to fantasy quarterbacks and fell victim to allowing Cam Newton generate
nearly 25 fantasy points in a victory. 20 points could be the floor for Dak in
this one.
On the Radar:
Baker Mayfield (CLE) (42%)
Blake Bortles (JAX) (41%)
Sam Darnold (NYJ) (9%)
Joe Flacco (BAL) (27%)
Ito
Smith (ATL) (9%)
We at ADF began our fond infatuation
for the Falcons rookie runner Ito Smith back in the offseason. While buried on
the depth chart behind Freeman and Coleman, Smith’s 2018 season outlook
appeared grim. Now with his teammate Devonta Freeman is being sent to injured
reserve for at least the next eight weeks, Ito will again get and great opportunity
to showcase his solid ability for the long term. Atlanta will surely create a
running back by committee approach making Ito a valuable commodity off the wire.
Adding to that, Smith has scored a touchdown in each of the last three contests
giving him great value with a very sound matchup this week against the Giants
at home.
Marlon Mack (IND) (27%)
It was with great
displeasure for us to witness Marlon Mack handle majority of the backfield
touches last week as we are great supporters of rookie Nyheim Hines. Either
way, Mack looks to have reasserted himself as the favorite to handle carries
behind Andrew Luck, with Hines potentially having a lesser role in which could
be more in the pass game. The Colts find themselves again in a situation where underachieving
is the issue, but from the fantasy perspective, garbage time points have been
plenty. Starting runners are extremely hard to find on the wire these days, and
with Mack holding a mere 27% ownership stake, he should be a top priority.
Duke Johnson (CLE) (PPR) (33%)
Speculative high potential
addition this week goes to the Browns pass catching back in Duke Johnson.
Seeing another heavy targeted outing last week against the Chargers, it appears
coach Haley understands the importance of getting Duke involved in this
offense. It’s not difficult to see that Cleveland has issues at wide receiver and
should be looking to Johnson to help in that area. Duke is a fantastic bench add
with flex starting appeal going up against the Buccaneers this week who give up
the 8th most to running backs.
On the Radar:
Ronald Jones II (TB) (29%)
Frank Gore (MIA) (11%)
Raheem Mostert (SF) (1%)
Giovani Bernard (CIN) (38%)
D’Onta Foreman (HOU) (24%)
Ty Montgomery (GB) (15%)
Wide Receivers:
Taylor Gabriel (CHI)
(24%)
Moving forward, it’s impossible to not envision Taylor
Gabriel being a massive part of this offense given his fantastic ability. Coach
Matt Nagy comes from the Andy Reid coaching tree that employs an affinity for
speedy game breaking type of players. Owned in only 24% of leagues and hitting
high points in his last two contests, you will have plenty of competition
trying to secure his services off the wire this week. Gabriel is trending up to
be a weekly flex starter and should be housed on your roster.
Marquise Goodwin (SF) (45%)
When Jimmy Garoppolo was lost for the season, many had
relieved their shares of the 49ers Marquise Goodwin dropping his ownership rate
to below 50%. After last night’s fantastic showing on Monday Night Football,
Goodwin is back on the radar to at least be housed on your bench and played in
favorable matchups. Goodwin torched the Packers defensive backs to the tune of
generating a whopping 25.90 points off only 5 targets. Coach Shanahan will continue
to allow CJ Beathard to sling the ball all over the field in hopes to remain
competitive. The volume should be there for Goodwin to be a factor.
Christian Kirk (ARZ) (15%)
For the third week in a row,
we at ADF have preached the Cardinals Christian Kirk with distinction as his
role in this offense continues to grow. As his quarterback Josh Rosen continues
to find his footing in this offense, it’s clear he has developed chemistry with
Kirk that should only grow stronger as weeks move forward. Seeing a healthy
amount of target share now each week, Kirk should at minimum be picked up and
placed on your bench while holding solid potential for the future. Talented
rookie receivers (with exception of star talent) usually take some time to get acclimated
to the pro game; Christian is trending in the right direction.
Willie
Snead IV (BAL) (10%)
If you are hard up to gain more depth at the receiver position,
look no further than the Ravens Willie Snead. Seeing an expanded role these
last three weeks, Snead has seen a whopping 24 targets come his way producing sound
numbers in the process. If Willie can find a way to cash in some of those
targets into touchdowns, his stock would instantly rise to be a top 15 receiver
every week. This week the Ravens faceoff against the New Orleans Saints in a
prime revenge tilt that will surely look for Snead to make a large statement on
his former club. Flex appeal reins high for Willie this week if you’re stuck.
Justin
Hardy (ATL) (0%)
A wait and see waiver add for the Falcons Justin Hardy
is definitely on the docket until the picture is clearer on Calvin Ridley and
Mohamed Sanu. With Atlanta one week away from their bye, it’s not inconceivable
to see them rest their two commentary receivers allowing for Hardy to see a much
expanded role. If you’re truly stuck with bye-weeks and or injuries, don’t
overlook Hardy to be a potential producer for your club.

Albert Wilson (MIA) (11%)
Tre’Quan Smith (NO) (5%)
Josh Reynolds (LAR) (1%)
DJ Moore (CAR) (17%)
Damion Ratley (CLE) (0%)
Tight-Ends:
CJ Uzomah (CIN) (33%)
Last week we advised to pick
up the Bengals CJ Uzomah if your tight-end position was a grave concern. Once
again, we are forced to endorse the same, as CJ is only owned in 33% of leagues
and has the potential to be a decent earner for your team. Seeing seven targets
last week is quite productive for a position that has been extremely disappointing
almost half way through the season. The Bengals have a good matchup against the
Chiefs in week seven making Uzomah a great pick up and play.
Charles Clay (BUF) (13%)
The Buffalo Bills offense has
been completely atrocious so far this season but the outlook for Charles Clay
could be pointing in the right direction. Rookie quarterback Josh Allen is very
close to be ruled out this week leaving newly acquired Derek Anderson a
possible start over pick-six-Peterman. With Anderson not knowing the offense as
well, checking down to Clay could happen quite often leaving him attractive in
PPR formats. If Peterman again gets the start, we’d advise you to look in
another direction.
