As we enter week seven, four team bye-weeks will be the normality
until week twelve leaving many fantasy teams reeling to fill their rosters with
lesser talent hoping to hit pay dirt. Many upcoming contests (based on matchup)
have the feeling to be great let-downs with some intriguing possibilities. Even
still with some review and study, we believe this slate of players should be
able to muster solid production for your fantasy team this week.

START - GET THEM IN YOUR LINEUP
Quarterbacks:
Jared Goff (LAR)
While Jared Goff has lifted his game to the point he could be
considered a weekly starter, this contest has us licking our chops at the
possibility of the Rams having an absolute field day. Facing off against the
49ers who could become utterly demoralized after dropping their last contest
against the Packers where effort reigned supreme, we feel the Rams will take full
advantage. San Francisco gives up the 5th most to fantasy
quarterbacks and we have little doubt that Goff (even without Cooper Kupp) will
dominate.
Andy Dalton (CIN)
The Bengals Andy Dalton is something of an enigma when it comes to
fantasy production as you almost never know which player will come out
week-to-week. Dalton had a great matchup last week where he missed the boat
leaving those who played him wishing they had moved in a different direction.
With that said, this contest against the Chiefs has been flexed to Sunday Night
where we could be treated to another shootout much like last week. The Bengals
usually come out strong in primetime and we are betting big with Andy this
week.
Eli Manning (NYG)
Ok we know, we know, the New York Giants fell below rock bottom last
week struggling to produce anything of relevance as the media instantly began
the questioning process on if Eli was finished. Even with everything that
transpired last Thursday Night, we can’t move past how great this matchup is
with extra rest and preparation the Giants will have. Atlanta gives up the 2nd
most to fantasy quarterbacks with a defensive group that has more holes than
Swiss cheese. Hard to think coach Shurmur will allow another embarrassment
making Manning a good bet to bounce back.
Running Backs:
Joe Mixon (CIN)
While we understand that if you have Mixon on your roster, you’ll
more than likely start him, but this week has the potential to be a showcased
event. Going up against the Chiefs whose defense struggles at the best of times,
Mixon should find large holes to gallop through. Kansas City gives up the most
to fantasy runners leaving Mixon a prime starter for this week.
Nick Chubb (CLE)
With recent news that Carlos Hyde has been traded to the Jaguars, rookie
Nick Chubb has been elevated to become the starting running back for the Browns.
Chubb has great talent that has obviously won over the Cleveland coaching staff
that should allow them to become more dynamic with Duke Johnson adding support.
Going up against the Bucs who give up top ten points to fantasy running backs,
Chubb has a great opportunity to prove the Browns made the right choice. There
is potential for Chubb to underperform in this one, but we’re betting he puts
on a show.
Kerryon Johnson (DET)
With bye weeks a plenty leaving many backs forced to the bench, fire
up Kerryon Johnson this week against the Fins. While Johnson has been
consistent in his own right holding ten or more fantasy points in every contest
(with exception to week one), this could be the week he is used heavily to get
the run attack moving. Coach Patricia continues to use a multi-back approach
which does limit the overall output for Kerryon, but this matchup has great
appeal to be a winner.
Kenyan Drake (MIA)
The other side of the Lions-Dolphins matchup, Kenyan Drake has been
equally fantastic as much as he’s been a bust from week-to-week. The commitment
to the run game hasn’t been what we would’ve expected from Miami this season,
turning Drake into a matchup runner. This week against the Lions who give up
the 4th most to fantasy backs, Drake has massive prospects to have a
great showing. While his rushing statistics have been subpar, his involvement
in the pass game does give him good upside in PPR formats. We really like
Kenyan to have a very sound day.
Wide
Receivers:
Willie Snead (BAL)
There is nothing like a true revenge game to lift the status of a
player in the NFL. The former New Orlean Saint Willie Snead gets his first chance
to stick it back to a club that let him walk in free agency. Snead has been quietly
gaining the respect of Joe Flacco seeing his target share increase in the
process. Over the last three weeks, Willie has seen 24 targets come his way
which should validate his importance to this offense. The Saints give up the
most to fantasy receivers potentially leaving a very solid day for the
secondary receiving option on the Ravens. An endzone trip isn’t out of the
question for Willie here.
Devin Funchess (CAR)
Admittedly, we at ADF have never been huge supporters of Devin
Funchess, but, he has impressed us so much with his improved ability that we
must endorse him this week against the Eagles. Carolina will be eager to start
this contest after dropping a duck last week to the Redskins where Devin was
used quite frequently. Philly struggles to stop big plays in the pass game
leaving Funchess with great potential.
Golden Tate (DET)
Coming off the bye rested and fresh, the Lions Golden Tate has a
great matchup over the middle against a Dolphins team that is very good at
defending the pass. Outside receivers should get the lock-down scheme leaving
the Fins linebackers with a very difficult task of stopping one of the best
slot receivers in the NFL. Star defensive back Xavien Howard should have his
hands full with Kenny Golladay making Tate a juicy option for your fantasy team.
If you had thoughts of sitting Tate based on a bad matchup, think again and
play the man.
Tight-Ends:
Evan Engram (NYG)
Returning from injury this week, the Giants speedy and elusive
tight-end Evan Engram is prime to make a comeback on Monday Night Football against
the Falcons who have big struggles stopping anyone. While we agree there may be
a letdown early for Engram as he tries to get his legs back from a long layoff,
the potential for him finding the endzone is very high.
CJ Uzomah (CIN)
Its no secret that the tight-end position has been very hard to
predict this season, but the overall outlook of the Bengals CJ Uzomah does have
us encouraged. Tyler Kroft has found his way to the medical room, where Uzomah
could see a good level of target share against the Chiefs who will have their
hands full with AJ Green and Tyler Boyd.
SIT - LEAVE
THEM ON THE BENCH
Quarterbacks:
Andrew Luck (IND)
While most believe that Andrew Luck should be a slam dunk start
versus the Buffalo Bills, they may be greatly disappointed with the overall
outcome. The Bills have played sound defense this season while being letdown by
the anemic offensive production. Luck isn’t what he once was but does have the
appeal for being the best garbage time producer at the position. Buffalo locks
down quarterbacks to the point they have a ranking of 3rd best fantasy
wise. Garbage time upside is the only thing that could save his day.
Blake Bortles (JAX)
For the foreseeable future Blake Bortles needs to be placed on the
bench until he proves he can produce at levels that will help your squad. With the
recent trade to get Carlos Hyde to improve this run attack to create viable
play action, Blake might find his way to better performances, but don’t count
on it this week.
Running Backs:
Isaiah Crowell (NYJ)
We have been extremely impressed with the level of play from Isaiah
Crowell so far this season, appearing to have turned a corner looking faster in
the games he’s played. With that said, Crowell has been hobbled by a nagging
injury and going up against the Vikings who have lifted their play defensively,
makes this a good chance at a bust. We’d keep him on the bench this week.
Matt Breida (SF)
The 49ers going up against the Rams leaves us to suggest Matt Breida
shouldn’t find his way into your lineup for week seven. Compounding the
situation of playing a strong defense, the 49ers have new blood in the
backfield that will ultimately take carries away. Raheem Mostert looked
impressive last week and should’ve done enough to catch Coach Shanahan’s eye. Shouldn’t
be a very good day for Breida.
Austin Ekeler (LAC)
While most times when a player has a bust performance, it was
dictated by game plan specific approaches leaving said player with an underwhelming
stat line. We have been giant supporters of Ekeler all season but are forced to
sit him this week against the Titans. Tennessee has a much improved line backing
core that will target Austin out of the backfield limiting his outlook. He will
have much better days ahead.
Wide
Receivers:
Will Fuller (HOU)
While some may feel the time is now to exploit the Jaguars inadequacies
on defense, we feel the complete opposite as Jalen Ramsey and company will want
to wash off the stick left from their blowout loss suffered last week.
Jacksonville will be extremely angry coming into this one making Will Fuller a
bench player for week seven.
Sammy Watkins (CIN)
I think its fair to say we have fallen off the Sammy Watkins
bandwagon and we have no plans to get back on. Sammy has talent for days that
never seems to translate on the field outside of being a decoy. His inability to
create consistent separation leaves us always wanting more. Even going up against
the Bengals who give up a healthy amount to receivers, Sammy will again be an
afterthought in production.
Corey Davis (TEN)
At the beginning of the season, we were not convinced that Corey
Davis would find his stride in this offense and he has shown that so far this season.
Marcus Mariota has regressed in this new system not being able to generate
anything whatsoever. Even with a leaky Chargers defense that give up points in
bunches to opposing receivers, Corey Davis will again be a bust with no viable
assistance on the field to pull coverage from his side.
Tight-Ends:
Jordan Reed (WAS)
With the amount of injuries to pass catchers on the Redskins
offense, some have suggested that Reed will benefit from a heavy number of targets.
We are not part of that camp as Dallas will key in on Jordan daring Alex Smith
to find lesser talent that is employed on the outside. Crowder & Richardson
will not see action in this one leaving double teams all day long on Jordan
Reed, look elsewhere.
POTENTIAL BIG
DAY – ALL ABOUT THE RISK/REWARD
Quarterbacks:
Joe Flacco (BAL)
The Baltimore Ravens
are literally the only NFL team that the great Drew Brees hasn’t been able to
solve. Having a home date hosting the Saints, Joe Flacco and company will have
their work cut out for them with a favorable matchup against a defense that is
underachieving. We can’t help but be encouraged with the remaining schedule for
the Ravens moving forward, where output could be higher than normally expected.
Flacco could have a decent day as a bye week filler.
Mitchell
Trubisky (CHI)
The Chicago Bears are coming off a disastrous loss at the hands of
the Dolphins and are gearing up to host the mighty Patriots this week. Mitchell
Trubisky has been fantastic in his last two outings generating a whopping 86.33
fantasy points. Having a matchup where attempting to equal blow-for-blow with
Tom Brady could be the on the menu, the potential for Trubisky to be a high
earner is there. This will be a very good test for the young quarterback.
Running Backs:
Duke Johnson (CLE) (PPR)
It was very clear to us that offensive coordinator Todd Haley saw something
special in Duke Johnson last week which was enough to trade Carlos Hyde from
the club. Duke will again have a reasserted role in the offense especially in
the pass game lifting his PPR potential back to what it should’ve been at the
start of the season. Just think about the damage that will be done with Duke
and Landry catching passes over the middle.
LeSean McCoy (BUF)
It has been a dreadful start to the season for one of the better
running backs in the league. Shady McCoy has suffered due to the lack of a creatable
pass attack the Bills employ. With journeymen quarterback Derek Anderson ready
to make his first start for the Bills, Shady has reinvigorated potential with a
passer that will look to him as a primary check-down. The Colts struggle to
stop the run and could see McCoy find his way to the endzone for the first time
this season.
Chris Thompson (WAS) (PPR)
With all the injuries to the Redskins pass catchers, Chris Thompson (provided
he plays this week) will have a clear role again as Alex Smith’s primary
target. The Cowboys have a much-improved defensive group that will make life difficult
for Washington leaving Thompson with the potential to see targets in bunches.
Wide
Receivers:
Sterling Shepard (NYG)
The Giants have again fallen off the radar with uneven performances,
but this week’s matchup has fantastic potential. Shepard has found himself on
the injury report which should be watched closely before kickoff, but if he
suits up, we could see Sterling looked upon to make a difference in this contest.
To us, this game will tell the tale if New York is that terrible or a team that
has underachieved.
Michael Crabtree (BAL)
Much like Willie Snead, Michael Crabtree should have a very good
game against the Saints who have major issues stopping opposing offenses.
Crabtree hasn’t played to the level from the past letting his statistics drop
in the process. With the Ravens being the only team that Drew Brees has never
beaten in his NFL career, fully expect Baltimore to once again come out strong
with Crabtree potentially having a fantastic day.
Tre’Quan Smith (NO)
With recent news that Ted Ginn has been sent to injured reserve,
rookie Tre’Quan Smith is now planted with a greater role on this offense. We
have been great supporters of Smith from his college days to which that increased
when he was drafted by New Orleans. We are interested to see if coach Payton
takes the training wheels off early as we fully believe that Smith is the
perfect compliant to Michael Thomas.
Tight-Ends:
OJ Howard (TB)
The Bucs OJ Howard returned last week
from his knee injury to which the coaching staff wasted no time to get him
involved in the game plan. Going 4 for 4 on targets last week and finding the
endzone is a clear indication Tampa Bay wants Howard to be the number one
tight-end in the pass attack. Facing the Browns who have improved on defense
could be a letdown for the overall production, be we feel OJ could again find
pay dirt in this one.
