With four weeks in the books many new contenders have
risen the ranks and have become appealing options to consider housing on your
roster. This is the time when bye weeks and injuries create concern for finding
appropriate depth to cover those losses. While some may feel like the waiver
wire is becoming utterly thin, we have found great potential that could turn
into something valuable as the season progresses.

BYE WEEK: Chicago,
Tampa Bay
Quarterbacks:
Alex
Smith (WAS) (55%)
As Alex Smith and the Redskins come off their bye week
fresh and ready to take on the challenges for the reminder of the season, we
found it surprising to see his ownership stake still sitting at 55%. If your
lucky enough to see Smith on the waiver, his week five matchup against the
Saints could be an option perhaps as an upgrade from your current starting
quarterback. Smith hasn’t been terrible to begin the season, and with an extra
week of preparation for Drew Brees and those New Orleans Saints, its not inconceivable
to think he could have a solid day.
Derek
Carr (OAK) (36%)
We at ADF still believe in the talents that Derek Carr
possesses, and are willing to once again provide somewhat of a healthy
endorsement to take a flyer on the Raiders signal caller. Owned in only 36% of
leagues and having a solid divisional matchup ahead of him against the Los
Angeles Chargers, who’s defense has seen its share of struggles, its not out of
the question to witness Carr have another day like that of last week. Early
struggles for Carr were the expectation as implementing a new system for any
offense is sure to have hiccups. If you require a quarterback this week, you
could do a lot worse than Carr.
Blake
Bortles (JAX) (33%)
The Jaguars and Blake Bortles again play this Jekyll
& Hyde game that provides confusion to which team offensively we’ll see on
a weekly basis. Owned in only 33% of leagues Bortles provides potential owners a
top-flight matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs in week five which has us
seeing the possibilities. Jacksonville has already gone on record to suggest they
will shut Leonard Fournette down for the next few weeks in hopes to aid in his
recovery (Hamstring), that opens the door for more passing from Bortles. This week’s
matchup could bring healthy production if your willing to take the risk.
On the Radar:
Baker Mayfield (CLE) (44%)
Marcus Mariota (TEN) (33%)
Joe Flacco (BAL) (25%)
Mitchell Trubisky (CHI) (15%)
Josh Rosen (ARZ) (4%)
Running Backs:
TJ Yeldon (JAX) (51%)
While it may be a long shot
to see TJ Yeldon grace the wire in most leagues, he is still available in 49%
of them making it a distinct possibility that you could get lucky. The Jaguars
rushed their star Leonard Fournette back too early last week hampering his
recovery, leaving Yeldon to carry the load for the next few weeks. TJ has been
rather productive this season generating a very strong 14.7 fantasy points per
game and there’s nothing to suggest that will slow down. Volume will continue
to dominate his game in this Jacksonville offense until Leonard returns. If you
see Yeldon available, it’s an obvious no brainier to submit the claim.
Nyheim Hines (IND) (PPR) (16%)
If you didn’t take our
advice last week in securing Nyheim Hines services, you will be in tough with
heavy competition from other league owners to snag him off the wire. Coach
Frank Reich wasn’t shy this offseason suggesting the usage he planned for his
young rookie back, and after four weeks, he will be a mainstay moving forward.
Hines is extremely talented and possesses a skillset that is extremely
conducive in the pass game now that the Colts are perfecting their short quick
pass game. Hines will undoubtedly become a weekly flex starter that managers
can trust, and if there’s any hesitation, seeing 11 targets last week should
place your mind at ease. Hines should be a top priority this week.
Nick
Chubb (CLE) (23%)
Last week ADF placed Nick
Chubb on the fantasy radar as Baker Mayfield began his assent to NFL stratum.
Nick Chubb only carried the rock a mere three times last week against the
Raiders but made the absolute most of those touches rumbling for 105 yards and
finding the endzone twice. At this point Chubb’s usage is very difficult to
predict as Carlos Hyde still holds the Lions share or carries, but after
witnessing last weeks performance, offensive coordinator Todd Haley will be
forced to provide more. Nick will be a great handcuff to Hyde and should be
placed on your bench provided you have the space.
Duke Johnson (CLE) (PPR) (42%)
Much like Nick Chubb, Duke Johnson once again has
become relevant now that Baker Mayfield is leading the way. Our opinion would
suggest that Duke will continue to be used sparingly until the entire offense
is on the same page. With that said, Duke is a great bench addition if you
happen to find him on the waiver as his ownership stake hovers around 58%. As
we all know, having depth at the running back position is a must as injures can
happen on any given Sunday.
On the Radar:
Ronald Jones II (TB) (24%)
Ty Montgomery (GB) (18%)
Ito Smith (ATL) (4%)
Mike Davis (SEA) (3%)
Alfred Blue (HOU) (1%)
Wide Receivers:
Mohamed
Sanu (ATL) (15%)
As the Atlanta Falcons continue to look like an
offensive juggernaut, all receivers once again have become relevant in this
offense. While rookie Calvin Ridley is stealing the headlines and Julio Jones collecting statistics in bunches, Mohamed Sanu
is flying under the radar but amassing good numbers in his own right. The last
two weeks Sanu has seen his target share increase to a healthy 16 while
securing 14+ fantasy points each week in the process. If you are in need of a
receiver that has flex start appeal, Mohamed Sanu could be your guy.
Christian
Kirk (ARZ) (12%)
Now that Sam Bradford has been relegated to the third
string quarterback role, we can once again preach the potential of the Cardinals
rookie Christian Kirk. Josh Rosen showed very good ability last week which
should ultimately lift this offense to levels we had envisioned before the
season began. The talk will move toward the other Arizona receiver Chad
Williams before Kirk this week, but we caution that as Kirk will take over the
secondary role for this team. While reaching his full potential may still be a
few weeks away, we recommend securing his services at least on your bench
before he becomes a hot commodity.
Taylor
Gabriel (CHI) (6%)
As the Bears continue to improve their offensive prowess,
Taylor Gabriel will have a distinct role especially in matchups which are
conducive to his abilities. Taylor is still a burner with above average hands
that can easily create mismatches all over the field. It’s no coincidence in
our mind that the correlation between Mitchell Trubisky’s break out performance
and Gabriel’s career day spoke hand-in-hand with each other. We accused coach
Nagy of playing conservative through the first three weeks of the season in
hopes he would open the flood gates, to which he didn’t disappoint in week four.
Good things coming from this offense and Taylor will be a part of that.
Keke
Coutee (HOU) (3%)
The one major aspect of the Texans offense that seems
to have never had a viable target in the slot receiver position, now might be a
thing of the past. We at ADF have been pumping up Keke Coutee since the NFL
draft, believing he would be a superb piece to assist Watson and company with dynamic
playmaking ability. Houston kept Keke in the barn for the first three weeks, while
week four was the time to remove the training wheels, and boy did it work. Keke
saw a whopping 15 targets last week securing 11 of those for 109 yards. If this
is any indication of the productivity he will provide, fully expect Coutee to
be a staple in this offense. He will be a hot commodity, so grab him early.
On the Radar:
Antonio Callaway (CLE) (38%)
Jakeem Grant (MIA) (10%)
Donte Moncrief (JAX) (6%)
Willie Snead IV (BAL) (5%)
Zach Pascal (IND) (0%)
Tight-Ends:
Tyler Kroft (CIN) (1%)
With Tyler Eifert once again
lost for the season, Tyler Kroft again becomes the default benefactor that will
find his way to produce in this offense. Andy Dalton knows and trusts Kroft as
seen from their chemistry last season. If you need to upgrade your tight-end to
see potential low end TE-1/2 numbers, do not sleep on Kroft as the manager that
snags him will definitely rub it in your face later. Kroft is our top tight-end
addition this week.
Cameron Brate (TB) (24%)
It’s unfortunate that Tampa
Bay is on the bye week as Cameron Brate would’ve been a top notch streaming
tight-end option with OJ Howard sidelined with an injury. While Brate won’t
help you this week, if you have struggles at the position, it may be beneficial
to put in a claim on Cameron and hold him on the bench for next week.
Ricky Seals-Jones (ARZ) (22%)
Much like Christian Kirk,
Seals-Jones instantly becomes a more viable threat now that Sam Bradford is
riding the pine. Seals-Jones was hyped this offseason to take on a greater role
in this offense to which hasn’t transpired outside of a handful of targets per
week. The upside and potential still rein high for Ricky to be a top earner,
but we would like to see more production before we fully endorse. With that said,
Ricky could be a solid upgrade if you require an improvement at tight-end.
