With just under two weeks until the beginning of the NFL
Draft, ADF is making our best guess efforts in predicting where some of the
upcoming talent will be drafted. ADF’s final mock will be released prior to the
NFL Draft on April.26. Let the speculation begin. (Mock Draft includes
potential trades)
ROUND 1
Cleveland Browns | Pick 1:
Sam Darnold (QB)
With all the
hype suggesting the Browns have Josh Allen as their top rated quarterback, ADF
believes this is a simple smoke screen to get quarterback hungry teams to trade
with the Giants for the second overall pick so Cleveland would have control of their
fourth overall selection. Darnold will be the pick here first overall.
Buffalo Bills (Trade with NYG) | Pick 2:
Josh Rosen (QB)
The Buffalo
Bills will in fact mortgage their future to finally get the quarterback the so desperately
need. The Bills will take the most NFL ready quarterback in the draft in Josh
Rosen.
New York Jets | Pick 3:
Baker Mayfield (QB)
While the
Jets secured their spot atop the draft quite a while ago, we believe the Jets
brain trust is enamoured with Baker Mayfield to take over as their franchise
quarterback.
Cleveland Browns | Pick 4:
Saquon Barkley (RB)
As the
Browns play mind games with other teams to gain control of the top of the
draft, they would have their choice of either Barkley or Chubb at pick number
four. While Chubb would look fantastic playing with Miles Garrett, Barkley is
far too good of a prospect to not select.
Denver Broncos | Pick 5:
Bradley Chubb (DE)
While all
the quarterback needy teams select their guys, the Broncos find themselves victorious
as Chubb will fall right in their lap at pick five. A combination of Von Miller
and Bradley Chubb will be far too nice for them to pass up.
Indianapolis Colts | Pick 6:
Quenton Nelson (G)
The Colts
could find their way to move down the board again to garner more draft capital,
however, if they remain at pick six they will have to address their offensive
line needs. Selecting arguably the best offensive lineman in the draft will go
a long way to keep Andrew Luck on the field.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers | Pick 7:
Derwin James (S)
At pick
seven the Bucs could choose to select a potential generational talent in Denzel
Ward, but they should most definitely select one of the biggest difference
makers on defense in this draft. Derwin James is a true quarterback for any
defense and would instantly give credibility to a unit in need.
Chicago Bears | Pick 8:
Tremaine Edmunds (LB)
As the Bears
continue their re-build under coach Nagy, selecting the best inside line backer
in the draft will create a tandem with Danny Trevathan that could rival some of
the best in the NFL. The Bears will be jumping for joy when they select
Edmunds.
San Francisco 49ers | Pick 9:
Denzel Ward (DB)
While ADF understands
the 49ers require extensive help in getting to the quarterback as their sack
totals from last season were dire to say the least, having Denzel Ward sitting
at number nine is far too difficult to pass up. Ward is a day one starter on
any defense and teamed up with Richard Sherman could pose to be a challenging
unit to pass against.
Oakland Raiders | Pick 10:
Roquan Smith (LB)
With the
Raiders looking to provide their star Khalil Mack with a running mate to remove
double a triple teams from his side, Roquan Smith could provide a much needed
talent infusion for this Oakland pass rush and line backing core.
Arizona Cardinals (Trade with MIA) | Pick
11:
Josh Allen (QB)
The
Cardinals could be a team that will sneak their way up the board to select a
quarterback to sit for a year learning the game behind a veteran like Sam
Bradford. In this scenario Josh Allen will find his way to the eleventh slot
and heading to the desert to an offense that will provide a much needed run
attack to support his game.
New York Giants (Trade with BUF) | Pick
12:
Harold Landry (DE)
The New York
Giants will have no choice but to accept and run away with the Bills offer with
a potential of six picks coming to the Big-Blue. Looking to help their
defensive line by adding more talent to a unit which underachieved last season,
Landry would provide great help in that department.
Washington Redskins | Pick 13:
Minkah Fitzpatrick (S)
The Redskins
would be elated when former Alabama product Minkah Fitzpatrick falls to them at
pick 13. Playing with the likes of Josh Norman on the back end of the defense
should allow the Skins defense to continue to improve.
Green Bay Packers | Pick 14:
Josh Jackson (DB)
Green Bay
could move in any direction at this point with many glaring needs on their
roster. With defensive back their top requirement, the Packers will get one of
the better corners in this draft class.
Miami Dolphins (Trade with ARZ) | Pick 15:
Vita Vea (DT)
As the
Dolphins entertain moving down the board to generate more drafts picks, moving
down four spots should allow them to still get their guy in Vita Vea, ultimately
replacing the hole left when they released Ndamukong Suh.
Baltimore Ravens | Pick 16:
Will Hernandez (G)
The Ravens
could easily go defense at pick sixteen and ADF may change this thought on the
next mock, but at this point the offensive line requires more talent as
Baltimore will be looking to again recreate a top running game while keeping
Joe Flacco off the turf.
Los Angeles Chargers | Pick 17:
Leighton Vander Esch (LB)
The Chargers
are a team that are making all the right moves improving their squad to become
a viable contender when the season begins. Selecting a true difference maker to
man the middle of their defense will go a long way to help the Chargers become
one of the better defenses in the NFL.
Seattle Seahawks | Pick 18:
Marcus Davenport (DE)
The rebuild
in Seattle will begin with the drafting of defense as the Hawks have little left
from the once feared legion of boom. It’s very possible Seattle chooses a
defensive back to help a very thin unit, but ADF believes Pete Carroll will
start with defensive line to help recreate this club.
Dallas Cowboys | Pick 19:
DJ Moore (WR)
With recent
news breaking that the Cowboys have moved on from their long time star receiver
Dez Bryant, selecting the first receiver in the draft should go in terms of DJ
Moore or Courtland Sutton. ADF thinks Moore could be the better fit in Dallas.
Detroit Lions | Pick 20:
Mike Gesicki (TE)
The Lions
will be looking to add playmakers to the team as they released their former
first round tight end Eric Ebron. Defense could be the pick here specifically
on the defensive line, but Gesicki could be a massive help to Stafford that the
Lions can’t overlook.
Cincinnati Bengals | Pick 21:
Mike McGlinchey (T)
It’s quite
simple as to what the Bengals need to address in the first round, and that’s their
spotty offensive line. Adding McGlinchey could benefit to the right side or
having him slide in to play guard would be a huge improvement.
New York Giants (Trade with BUF) | Pick 22:
Derrius Guice (RB)
Though the
Giants might have had thoughts to select Barkley with the second overall
selection, in this situation New York receives a great consolation prize
shoring up their running back need with hot shot Derrius Guice. The trade down
with the Bills could place New York back into contention for the NFC East.
New England Patriots | Pick 23:
Mike Hughes (DB)
Bill
Belichick is a master at finding talent that he can exploit in his systems.
Mike Hughes would be a perfect fit beside Stephan Gilmore to once again shut
down the opposition and their pass game. The Pats would love Hughes at twenty
three.
Carolina Panthers | Pick 24:
Calvin Ridley (WR)
Looking to
give Newton more to work with while becoming a multi-dimensional offense,
Calvin Ridley would fit this offense like a glove providing Cam a true reliable
receiver outside of Christian McCaffrey.
Tennessee Titans | Pick 25:
Da’Ron Payne (DT)
Looking to
bolster the defense and help the run stopping aspect of this unit, defensive
tackle should be a no brainer for the Titans here. ADF believes Tennessee could
draft another receiver to help Marcus Mariota in his progression, but solidifying
the defense is a must for new coach Vrabel.
Atlanta Falcons | Pick 26:
Maurice Hurst (DT)
General
manager Thomas Dimitroff has done a masterful job in building a team that is
still on the cusp of being a Super Bowl contender once again. While adding to
the offense to provide more explosion would seem like the way to go, Coach
Quinn will definitely persuade this pick be used to help an up and coming
defense. Losing Poe to free agency leaves a massive hole to stop the run, Hurst
should help that.
New Orleans Saints | Pick 27:
Carlton Davis (DB)
The Saints
will be looking to add more defense to help compete in a very difficult NFC conference.
Carlton Davis is a fantastic corner that playing alongside Marcus Lattimore would
create a duo that opposing offenses would fear.
Pittsburgh Steelers | Pick 28:
Justin Reid (S)
The Steelers
require a few pieces to round out a club that is poised to make another run.
Adding safety help to a team that will require sure handed tackling assistance,
now without Ryan Shazier for all of 2018 is a must. Its possible line backer
could be the pick, but Reid is far too talented at twenty eight.
Jacksonville Jaguars | Pick 29:
Lamar Jackson (QB)
As the
Jaguars try and take their skill and talent to the next level, they will make
the splash and draft the Michael Vick athletic clone to backup Blake Bortles. Learning
the NFL game while sitting on the bench would allow Lamar to improve his craft.
Minnesota Vikings | Pick 30:
Isaiah Winn (G)
With Cousins
added to the team via free agency, the Vikings have little in terms of need and
everything in terms of adding more depth. Adding to the offensive line would be
a move in the right direction for this team. Defensive back wouldn’t shock ADF
either as the rich will continue to get richer.
New England Patriots | Pick 31:
Taven Bryan (DT)
With their
second pick in the first round, the Patriots will continue to add to a defense
in need of talent. Bryan has made waves in recent weeks as he’s climbed up team
draft boards with his exceptional skill. He would start day one for New England
if drafted here.
Philadelphia Eagles | Pick 32:
Jaire Alexander (DB)
The Eagles
will continue to add depth to a team already stacked with talent. Jaire
Alexander would be an absolute steal if he falls all the way to the last pick
of the first round for Philadelphia. Defense will be the pick at thirty two.
